Missouri his district comprises the five South Miss counties; besides a battalion of the 8th he has command of all the militia in the district + as it is infested with guerrillas, he is kept very busy - the government ordered him to build a fort at Newtonia + he [levied?] on the [Sesesh?] to do the work. He says it does him good to see them quarrying stone and working under guard. He makes them bring their [Negros?] and provisions. I wish all now them Copperheads could be [...] in the same way. The day of reckoning is coming for them. the Army boys will return some day, then but them stones from under -
