Jan 15th 1869 Dear Sir: I gladly send you my pamphlet. It is designed to illustrate the advantages of the Mines of Alpine, as a field for judicious and profitable investment - and to promote the interests of my own particular enterprise: on the ground that it possesses elements of success which has never before to my knowledge been embodied in any company. Those who regard mining as so precarious a business are mistaken, but to the successful it must be carried on my one on a Board who understand it - not by adventurers and speculaters without character or responsibility. I have not had a letter from your brother since I left California
