Received a letter an the Herald and Gazette from Newton. September 12. Rained all night last night. Called into line of battle twice during night. all completely well through enemy passed in sight of us last night and appeared to be preparing for an attack earnst this morning but at daylight are nowhere to be seen. I came to camp and sent by boys their breakfast. Just at noon the alarm was given that the enemy ware comeing sure. I gathered all the sick that could walk that belonged to our company and Started to form the company. Got there and found that 4 or 5000 Secesh ware
