1 from [illeg] Vanlois and one from E C McKee which stated that Mark was in the 26th Reg Ind Vol and was now in St Louis. good boy. Sep 23rd W. D. Serring started for home this morning to [recrant?] his health also as a recruiting officer for the Regiment. Wrote a letter to Sally and sent by him, also one to H. Hensted ordering a suit of clothes. Weather clear but quite cool of night. Sept 24th Weather clear & warm during day, but cold at night. Our Regiment taking things verry easy. They are considered too ragged for duty consequently they have easy time.
