many of them are poorly clad as far as [illeg] pants are concerned, in fact some of them have no pants at all and have on only cotton drawers and many are so ragged that they might almost as have none. About 3 P.M. the wind [that?] which had already blown from the South suddenly changed to North and was a perfect hurricane and [imediately?] the rain abatingas we as hoped it would it once appeared to rain [illeg] [illeg] But now commenced the suffering indeed as we ware all perfectly [drenched?] but hd managed [illeg] [illeg] to keep ourselves from freezing by [illeg] [illeg] the fire but now the rain
