48 Oct. 6, 1902. The first meeting of the Cary Club for the new year was held at the home of Mrs. Mentzer 14 members being present and two guests. The meeting was opened by the retiring Pres. Mrs. Alexander who delivered the sceptre of power into the hands of the president elect, Mrs. Mentzer. The retiring Sec. called the roll which was responded to by quotations from Paul Lawrence Dunbar. The Sec. annual report was read, also the treasurer's report both being accepted. A paper was read on the comparison of German and American Schools by Mrs. Rathbun. Mrs. [illegible] read a most interesting paper on The Life of Booker T. Washing- ton. The recitation by Mrs. Hutchinson was omitted till the following meeting. The plan for raising funds for the Public Library dis- posed by the City Federation was discussed but was voted to be further considered at next meeting. At the close of the program refresh- ments were served by the hostess and a social time spent. Adjourned to meet Oct. 20 with Mrs. Alexander. Mrs. Mentzer Pres. Mrs. Anderson Sec.
