Taken from booklet written by Dr. Lindsay Curtis of Ogden, Utah 1 - A drug addict is one who thinks he has a need for a drug which may be a medicine, narcotic or a poison. He loses control of his life. 2 - A narcotic addict refers to someone who is addicted to opium, morphine, heroin, cocaine marijuana, codeine, + [Demerol?] plus a few other less common drugs 3 - There is a group of non-narcotic drugs that is abused. They are divided into three general groups: 1 - Stimulants or amphetamines also called "bennies" or 'pep pills' } Prescribed for overweight, narcolepsy need sleep depress + nervous [illegible] 2 - Depressants or sedatives In this class are barbiturates medical drugs affectionately called "goofballs." Among the depressants there is a new drug which has a sedative effect without producing sleep called tranquilizer
