186 The W.C.T.U. Meeting of Aug. 1926 met with Mrs. Jonas Anderson. A bright sunshine day brought out a goodly number. The president, Mrs. Robt. Lincoln being absent, Mrs. J.S. Stoak acted as president, pro-tem. Music from the victrola, "Abide with Me" was substituted for the regular song-singing. Mrs. Stoaks read selections of scripture from Exodus touching on Moses' dealings with the childre of Israel and the wonderful obedience to God who so directed him. Miss Jennie Baily led in prayer, closing with the Lord's prayer. The secretary's report was read and approved. Owing to the serious condition of Miss Harriett Buck, the treasurer's report was not given . [Here is inserted a newspaper obituary clipping]: "Miss Harriet C. Buck, a loved and valued member and treasurer of Grinnell and Poweshiek county W.C.T.U., answered the heavenly roll call August 18, 1926, after a brief illness occasioned by a fall. Miss Buck was one of our most efficient and loyal members. In 1924 at Cedar Rapids the editor of the Champion, awarded her a fountain pen, for the most perfect lists sent in during the year. She was a life member and most capable and efficient in every way." A letter was considered, but no action was taken. A few of the annual reports was read Mtrs. M.E. Hess gave an interesting report on flower mission. In spite of the shortage of flowers one hundred bouquets were sent to the home and eighteen distributed in Grinnell. Fifty visits were made accompanied with flowers, cards and delicacies. Many places prayers were offered and people blessed. Mrs. G.O. Watland, S.S. Literature reported 3000 leaflets distributed to the S. Schools. Miss Jennie Baily gave a brief report of her work on narcotics. Miss Delma Anger reported the contributions made to the Benedict Home. The meeting proceeded to elect officers for the ensuing year. The nominating committee presented their candidates: For president it was decided in favor of Mrs. Wm. Hamilton, Vice Pres. Mrs. Robt. Lincoln, Sec.Mrs. Anna Hudnett, Treas. Miss Harriett Buck, Press and Publicity, Miss Delma Anger. The meeting closed by repeating the Mispah. Mrs. Richards, secretary.
