Saving...
choose the daughter of a good mother. I have made a good choice - but that time alone will determine - It would give me much pleasure to have your approval & would you write her a letter it would please us both - I hope to be able next year to bring her to New York and to see you in good health & to have you welcome her as another daughter added to your family - My health has been uniformly good with the exception as I wrote you in a former letter of being poisoned in the face with wild Ivy which blinded me for about ten days - I send you a newspaper from this place you will see I have the appointment of Judge of Probate - an office of more honor than profit at present - I did not ask it, but would not decline it - As to my business - it is as good as I could expect but money is very scarce the hard times having reached [Wisconsin?] - I shall live about a mile & a half from town - keep my office in town & by so doing shall improve my place, give to it an additional value & save at least $150 a year in rent - my law business I think will be just as good - Our dwelling will be a humble one indeed but still as good as common in the Country - a log cabin with one room but as I think in a delightful situation with a good well of Water a garden and about 50 acres enclosed covered at present with scattering timber - I think I can content myself there better than I could in Yates Co with the best dwelling in the County and I look for contentment not show - I will write you again more at large next week - pray let me hear from you as soon as you receive this - I send this by a friend to be mailed at
