Great Bend Dec 2d Friend Child In accordance with my promis I now take the opportunity of writing to you, Well in the first place how do you do, Ah me thinks I hear you say right as Book & then Paddock how goes it, Paddock responds "the Lords will be done" & then methinks I hear a sigh occasioned by the continued remembrance of those with whom you have had to bid adieu at Carthage Hedemy, perhaps I should not have said those but that are whom you deemed [illegible] and whom you have bestowed so many acts of kindness upon and perhaps blended with a kiss which had a tendency to drive that invisible arrow of affection into your hearts still deeper. But then I know that [my?] old friend Child will not refine or murmer for his better judgement will reprove him But then I know it is hard to part for but a short
