Saving...
March 26 1834 Penn Yan Yates County - Dear Father From Husted who returned a few days since I had the pleasure of hearing from home but my satisfaction was dampened by also hearing that you had been unwell by a bad cold, I hope you have recovered & will again enjoy good health the remedy I have made use of with the greatest success is boneset tea, it is very bitter & creates a nausea at the stomach and cannot be taken only in small quantities without producing vomiting by those who are unused to taking it - I am particularly partial to it for I verily believe I should never have recovered from a severe cold I had three years ago if I had not taken it - My heath is now unusually good & for two years & a half I have not seen a sick hour - In this Country we have more bilious complaints than in Dutchess and cases of fever and ague are frequent - but I think fewer cases of consumption - this winter has been remarkably mild in the month of January there was about two weeks sleighing since which there has been but little cold weather - As regards business, it is uncommonly dull, there has not been as much litigation the last six months as before, the pressure of the times is severely felt, the banks have not discounted for several months, of course money is very scarce and the products of the farmer extremly low - the best of wheat brings but five shillings, 'rye & corn three shilling, oats twenty cents - last summer & fall almost
