Penn Yan June 20 1834 Dear Father Your letter giving me your opinion in the case of McIntyre I have delayed answering until the present. I had nothing of interest to write further than you would hear from Stevens. McIntyre settled his case through the instigation of Norris & Husted for one hundred dollars he was made to believe that I was wrong in the course I had taken - your letter afforded me the utmost gratification for I read it to him and he now thanks them as much as I do for their intermeddling with what was none of their business - your letter satisfied me that I was right & it also satisfied many others who had taken an interest in the case - & I was much mortified at its being settled - In my VanDyne cause the Judge decided as you predicted he would - denied them a new trial - they have obtained an order for a stay of proceedings and carry it to the Supreme Court - I have now three causes for the decision of the Supreme Court-- one is a case of Hyat vs Baker - which is briefly this Hyat sued Baker before a Justice of the peace recovered a judg't of $23-- I brought a [illeg.] for Baker to reverse the Judgement on the ground that the verdict was palpably against the weight of evidence & it clearly appeared from the Justice's return without the shadow of a doubt that there ought to have been a verdict for Baker of $7. Hyat has brought a writ of error to reverse the Judg't of the Court of common Pleas - The other case is a cause tried last week at our circuit - Jones sued Grave in [illeg.]-- the defense was non [illeg.] & the Statute of
