Camanche July 19 1861 Dear Sister I will take a few moments to correspond with you if I cant see you. I have been to a school visit this forenoon our school term is ended until after harvest there was a dance at our town I had an invitation to go but it was not a very good one all the [??] there was he drank whiskey but that is very common here for the young Gentlemen we have company from Town this afternoon Clime I hired out about a week ago to go to Town to work but I do not want to go for they are very rich proud people I went the fourth of July to Camanche but went Family fashion Clime I have got a new pair of Congress Gaiters and a new dress and am going to get me some [coarse] shoes next Saturday Clime I have got so poor you would not know me I have had several shakes of the ague but not very hard Clime I am going to load hay now they are all ready and Remain your cinsear Sister C Grohe dear brother and Sister I take my pen in hand to inform you that i am well and hope that these few lines will find you the same we all want to see you and the baby Climene i have had soar eyes for two weeks I have a very good school master only he gets drunk
