come what will I think I shall vote for old Abe agan and stick by the old ship which it swims if I have to use the gun to doe it with and I hope you will doe the same I was much plased with the motto on a letter you sent me a year or so ago and I hope you will allways doe the same for thare is a differance wether one flag is niled to the mast or onely hangs by a slender end liable to be pulled down by traitors I tell you Henry that it is time for eveary union man to put forth all his efforts this fall and see that all union are out I can not help but think that thare is pattriotism enough in the hearts of the people if it not lied nor browbete of them by the copperhead laders and editors and it wants every man that can give them fits to go in and make the the thing look jusst as bad as it can ( [illeg] can not be to bad) and head then in eveary quarter I know you are good for them but Thomas nor Oliver has not got quite as much firmness as some I doe not doubt Thomas loyalty in the last Oliver said last fall when he was drafted that he would never vote republican agan but I soon talked him out of that that no- tion and if Thomas ever shows any sings of faltering you just go at him and give him a good going over and tell him to lay it to me. I will give you some of the names of them that have enlisted lately.
