Saving...
Camp of the 15th Iowa Vol Inft Holmes Plantation La. May 6th, 63 Dear Brother and Sister Yours of recent date came to hand in due time and was carefuly perused Thinking you might wish to know where we are and what we are doing at this time as these are stirring times, I will spend a few moments in writing to you, We arived here one week ago yesterday and possibility we may stay for another week to come as some body has to stay here to guard the road as this is the only rout to the advance army, there is not much danger of any trouble but it is best to be prepaired for any emergency, Yesterday the fourth cavelry passed down the road, I saw Rumble and Roberts, they both look well and I dont supose that they deceive their looks, Their Regt numbers about six hundred strong, I think it is rather a poor regt. many of them have no fire armes nothing but an old sabre, some few have carbines, also their horses are very indifferent Their destination I do not know The 25 passed down the night before I saw a good many of my old acquaintances, The most of them are in good health, I did not see Arch but the boys say he looks as well as he ever did, he has not been discharged nor I dont think he will be very soon
