59. and finish my course and take my degree. The position I secured supposedly was to teach English, Drawing and Penmanship in a junior high-school in a railroad-center town. And being a young, inexperienced novice and having to teach one-hundred and twenty-five pupils - twelve, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen year olds full of energy and mischief - was no easy task. The English, drawing and penmanship classes for all three grades were scheduled every day, and the ensuing papers and themes almost ran me wild. Furthermore music appreciation for all three grades was added to my teaching schedule; as was spelling daily to the sixth grade; sewing to the sixth grade girls once each week and I also coached the girls basket-ball after school every evening. One of the exercises for the English classes was to write an original play about Thanksgiving. It was also my problem to direct and produce the best one written. There is no doubt about me being decidedly and introvert. I like to work alone. In fact being by myself and time of my own is quite necessary for my own equanimity and happiness. This teaching business then, was about to drive me to distraction.
