But at this time being new in our village and quite inexperienced, we knew nothing about the relative merits of the various physicians. A friend recommended her doctor, a physician and surgeon - I am afraid - ill-advisedly - for her judgement proved to be fallible. This man was a burly, gruff, rough and ready sort of an individual who had been affiliated with the army during the World War. I went to his office thoroughly distraught and miserable with my lumpy swellings and an itch that was driving me mad.
