Thursday - August 13th 1942 Dearest Bee Jay: The folks have gone to bed so I'm taking the pen - which is whispering in print compared to typing - because I want to thank you for the pictures which arrived safely today. Darling, you are spoiling me. I have gotten to the point where I expect daily letters; and I depend on them to make the day less of a drudgery. When I have something to come home to - well, I can understand how a wife can make life more exciting for a man if he knows there's something to look forward to: some special treat for dinner; a book, perhaps, he's wished for but not wanted to spend money for and she's contrived to earn or save
