July, 1906. Sun. 29. Fair, cool night, but hot sun to-day. 84° max. Girls & I at M.E. church morn. Our pastor taking vacation. Mon. 30. Fair & hazy; - red sun. 84° Max & cool nights. C. in P.M. Sprayed melons & strawberries bordeaux Evg. - & grapes & roses with nicotine Tues. 31. Fair & hazy. Rainy P.M. C. in P.M. Not feeling very well. Killed a mole for Hall. Began using Hale plums - a few falling off. Wed. 1. August. Unpromising morning but came off fine. Big Woodmen pic-nic at Postville & girls & I went by train. Home 10:20. Ran up to Castalia. Head-ache in eyes all day. Red Lilies blooming. Thurs. 2. Fair & hot. 88° max. Head-ache all night & all day & no appetite. First marrowfat peas. Fri. 3. Fair & hot. Light th. shower in night. 90° max - Head ache all night, gradually wearing off to-day. C. in P.M. Killed a mole in front yard. Hot nights. First ripe tomatoes. Sat. 4. Quite warm morn. Clouded & rain after 3:30 & much cooler. Soaking rains P.M. & Evg. First homegrown sweet corn. A few ripe Tomatoes.
