September, 1906. Sun. 30. first frost up here. Light frost, singeing tops of grape vines. Fine day, but chill East breeze. At mtg. morn. only - suffering from a cold. Last of late plums . Oct. 1st. Not all used till [illegible] 4. - fine large tame plum, 1st one in garden. Mon. 1. October. 2nd frost, lighter than before. office till 4 P.M. Miserable with cold. Fine day & warm. - Took up portulacea & carnation, & baby rambler rose. Started old paper white Narcissus. Tues. 2. Clear & still & warm, about 75° max. Feeling some better, but very weak. out after 4 P.M. - C. in A.M. & P.M. To bed early these nights, say 8:30. Wed. 3. Not a cloud to be seen; about 75 Max. as yesterday. Church Fin. Com. mtg. Evg. after 9 till 10 o'c. at office. C. in a while P.M. Thurs 4. Fair & warmer 76° or 78° N. breeze sprang up evening & cooled things off. Dinner at church. C. in P.M. - my cold is better. Fri. 5. Fair morn., N.W. breeze 42° Growing cold. - About home from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Feeling much better. - office Evening till 9:30. Sat. 6. Fair & some frosty morn. Fair day: 60° max. - variable winds. Cleaned out chimney, pipes, and cook stove pm 3 to 5.
