Lacona Tower Sept 1st 71 Mr J B McDill Dear friend I received your welcome letter this evening & haste to answer. I would like to grant Mr Brows request, but I can not. I feel confident that Brow, Parris & Stephen would do all they could to pay it against the time agreed, but would the other part of the Board do their part. When I gave orders to [sew?] on it I had fully made up my mind to lay out of the money a year or more & I do not now propose
