I will commence with about thirty scholars. The most advanced class is studying Algebra. I will be handy to the city so that I can attend church every Sabbath, and lectures and speaches during the week. I have only promised to stay here three months, but if everything goes right they want me to stay nine. I have been making my calculations to go home in Feb or March, but now that I am so well fixed for attending church and getting so good pay, the temptation to remain longer is very strong. If father don't come had I better go home in the spring, or stay a little longer? John and Mathew Mintun (sons of Jacob Mintun of Wapello) are living about four miles from John Fitzpatrick where I have been boarding. I heard the name but did not know they were any relation of Jacob Mintun's until about six weeks ago. They haven't much property and are not doing much. John is keeping a one horse grocery and drinking Saloon on one of the principal roads leading to the mountains. I received a letter from Drury Cochran about a month ago: he was in Carson Valley - had taken a claim and expected to remain there all winter. I am now at Mr. Bell's, where Henry Hartly has been working so long, and expect I shall board here. Henry is boarding here and cutting cord wood. Tomorrow I expect to go to Cashville, about twenty five miles,
