Tuesday, July 31, 1888 Still quite warm, but more breezy with slight sprinkle or two during day. About as usual with our folks, & guess spending day much same know Ch- wasn't idle, Ellery stopped awhile in morn to help me give bed &c good cleansing in chamber, I swept room, with usual chores, & plenty rest & knitting. Sent note to Mate Smithe as to visiting her, & Ethel called first eve. Wednesday, Aug 1 Less heat, & pleasant, sun not shining thro all day. Others appear as well, & guess spending day much as usual. I was ready when Ellery left for store in morn & he walked with me to "Mate Smithe's" where I enjoyed rest of day, & being in at "Mary Stone's" with her awhile P.M. Mrs Purdy with a Mrs Rockwell of Dubuque called. Mate walking nearly home with me eve, when we called at Carrie Alexander's. A year makes quite a difference in Mate's children, (Hancock?) especialy
