July 3 Thursday July 4 Beautiful day, a big mistake made this morn-- the firing of cannon, & ringing bells taking place at 3 o, c, instead of at sunrise, as intended for "national salute," all else passing off well, I walked, with Mrs Howe, to Fairgrounds to hear oration, responses, & vocal music by glee club. I rode home with Mrs H- took dinner at home, down town little in P.M. supper at Geo-s at Mrs Howe's in eve to see fire works
