La,Grange Tenn. July 9th 1864 8 1/2 o,clock A.M. Miss Louise Jackson Friend & Correspondent We have just now received by telegraph the melancholy intelligence that Captain McKean is dead. After suffering from disease in camp for nearly a week he was taken to the Officers' Hospital in Memphis on the 26th of June. He then received every attention that could be procured. One of the company remained with him all the time, ministering to his comfort. On Monday & Tuesday the 4th and 5th inst. I remained with him. His symptoms were favorable and recovery hopeful.
