My mind is so confused and my hand so tremulous, from the effects of more than a weeks sickness and several doses of quinine, that I feel unable to proceed farther at present. This you must consider a sufficient apology for the miserable composition and penmanship of this letter. Jimmy Morgan and Steve Collins have been at this place since the last of July, Steve has been in and staid a good share of the time every day since then. Today they go to their regiment which is at Holly Springs You have doubtless learned the fate of Robert Fowler, Jerry Myers, and Phillip Rutter in the late battles between Smith and Forrest.
