I believe I do, Clara, I know I have tried as hard to learn your true nature, as I could, and surely, I never have been blinded by you, in the least. On the contrary you have afforded me every opportunity to understand your real character. I do not believe that Shakespeare addressed himself to such characters as you or I, when he said, "love is blind, and lovers cannot see", - do you? You say that you "do know experimentally", what love is. Well now, that is honest, and it strikes me as though it came from that heart of yours. Well, it makes me very happy, to know that I am loved by you, Clara; for I can be truly honest in every particular, and say that, "you are the sole possessor of my heart."
