Friday 2/5/43 Dearest: This is the first writing I have done since last Monday. If it isn't too good, forgive it for I am propped up in bed. Tuesday they made me come to hospital. Flu the doctor said. Tues, Wed & Thurs I wasn't much interested in anything my temp. was 106, 104, 102. Today I'm feeling better and my first thought was of you. I am sorry I wasn't able to get a letter out to Kansas to meet you. I think they mean so very much when one is away. I enjoyed those two clever poems a lot.
