Sunday 28 March 1943 My dearest: Another week has passed. Time flows by, doesn't it? What is past seems not so long as it did as the future. Spring is well advanced and daily I see changes of the season. Unchanged is my love for you. That is eternal. Nor time nor season can change it or blunt it. It is so right, so necessary that nothing else is possible. It is my one immutable rock in this intransigent world. The barracks are quiet, most of the boys are in Houston but there's nothing to attract me there. My heart is in Springfield. The sonnet (it was that, wasn't it?) in your last letter sent my soul soaring. I wish I could write poetry as you do. I imagine our thoughts must cross each other a great deal. When I have a free moment or two
