Monday 31 May 1943 Dearest,: My letters have become more frequent but haven't you also noticed that they are somewhat shorter? I write them in whatever moments I can snatch. Sometimes laying it aside for a while and coming back. Then, whenever mail is going out I send them along. This is why they resemble bob-tailed kittens... they're cut off short. You'll probably hear less from me for a week or so as I have been made temporary commander of an echelon - that's 45 navigators - until the Captain arrives to take over. I make up the flight assignments, prepare the orders for flight, brief the flight results. I don't get any higher rank or more pay but it'll show up
