Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nov 18th 1865 Dear Brother & Sister we recieved your welcome letter a few days ago and was glad to hear of your safe arrival home and to hear that all was right at home but sorry you were so disappointed in not finding Orion there but when he comes he will not have to go back that is one consolation. William is at Des Moins and has been almost two weeks he wrote to me he had rented a house and wanted to move the last of this month and for me to get ready as fast as possible if the weather is favorable we will go if not we can wait untill it is there is no compulsion it is very pleasant now and has been for some two weeks or more there is a great deal of sickness here mostly Typhoid fever I there averages one funeral every day. there was a very sudden death in town friday evening a man eat his supper very harty at the usual hour and went to his shop to work, he was a shoemaker he had some Leather come and went out to see to it (side) I thought I would send all but will send part now and if they come all right I will send the rest let us hear soon from you
