DesMoines Iowa May 28th 1869. Dear Fathers, As you wished me to write often I thought I would let you know how I am. An abcess or something broke in my lung to day. Everything I cough up is bloody. I feel a keen pain in one place when I cough. Have not had those chilly sensations lately. Though at times my hands are bloodless and cold. I have taken the medicine you prescribed. It has done me good. But have coughed more today. Are symptoms good or bad
