Burlington Iowa Augt 18th 1871 Dear Father & Mother We left Cleremont last evening at 8 o'clocks - came to Galesburg at 7 this a.m. to find the train for the west gone just one hour. Our train was behind time one hour, or we would be just now 2:30 pm. going into Charitin - Mary will be disappointed. We shall leave here at 7 this p.m. and reach Chariton on the midnight-train. Charley is a fine traveling companion - not a word out of him, while we are traveling, but he keeps me going over the city - just for he's amusement. I thought I would write you from here, or you would not hear from me before the middle of the week. Charley & I send our love you all Your Son Orion A.B-
