Hd Qrs Co A, 7th Iowa Cavalry Past Alkali WI March 10th 65. Murphy Edward B. Capt. Comdy Co A 7th Iowa Cavalry Recommendation for promotion of Sergt Major Thomas J. Potter 7th Iowa Cavalry to Second Lieutenant Co A, 7th Iowa Cavly Headquarters 7th Iowa Cavalry, Cottonwood Springs N. T. March 11th 65 Respectfully forwarded. As Co A, 7th Iowa Cavalry has but one officer present for duty, I earnestly desire that this commission be issued at once. The co will be devided during a great part of the present season for the good of the service it is necessary that another commissioned officer be appointed. There is no other person recommended for this vacancy to my knowledge & Sergeant Potter's appointment is earnestly desired by all parties interested & urgently requested by me. Geo M.
