Italy Naples - Naples nestles in a semi-circle about he outline of the harbor. A pretty situation to be sure, with the bay for a view and the buildings of the city lining the hills which rise to crown the landscape. Naples is a modern growing metropolis. The main streets are wide, well paved, and clean; the back streets are more medieval; most of the buildings are four or five stories high flat roofed and line the squares in a continuous row. This is where the population of Naples live. Consequently when the streets are very narrow and the buildings as high as they are, light and sunshine cannot penetrate [illegible] dissimulate in the living quarters as it should. The houses and roads are built right up the steep hillsides. It seems almost, as though they were merely clinging to the rocks, one above the other in clifflike outline. When view from above the city laid out in double crescent shape below with the med. stretching endlessly away the pattern is rather effective. From above the buildings seem
