Monday - 1:30 p.m. 11/15/43 Dearest: Your letter of the 11th just arrived discussing plans for your leave and I don't know what to say. I know what the right thing is, of course, and that's to stay home and await what portion of your leave you wish to and can bestow on me. But I find I don't want to do the right thing. It's a dull, leaden day with the skies pouring rain, - fitting, however, to the way i feel. Because I sounded out mother right after I got your letter and her stand is the same as it was before, namely, that so long as we are not married - and it's now months too late for that - she still has the job of protecting me.
