49 the program and directed the train to move up to the Brigade. Three days rations were received, including pickled cabbage and whiskey. At One oclock the regiment was ordered to cross the North Ann river, however it was not accomplished - 1st owing to the water being deep and II the Johnnies were on the other side shooting at us. Just before dark a heavy shower of rain fell. Wednesday 25th Heavy musketry firing began at 6.30 this morning, and by 8.30 the battle was on, during which our loss was:
