74 Front of Petersburg, Va. Tuesday, July 5th 1864 Drew and issued two days rations of Sanitary provisions: Fresh cabbage and string Beans. Frederick Kohler, of Co. F, was found dead, this afternoon about 5 oclock, in the bushes near where the Cook Corps, of our regiment, are quartered. There were no marks on his body to show that he was killed, and it is supposed he died of apoplexy. A gill of whisky was issued to each man reported for duty. Wednesday 6th For some reason a continuous firing, at intervals of five to ten minutes was kept up all last night and to day, from one of the forts near us.
