Saving...
82 Front of Petersburg, Va - Monday, July 25th 1864. Some of the Cooks and Lieut. Daniel H. Snyder, who is under arrest, bought two canteens of whisky and were very drunk. Received word from S.S. Childs, Harrisburg, Pa., through Captain Brumm, that he had collected my bounty ($100.00) and desired to know what disposition to make of it. I directed him to send it to my father, at Setzlers Store, Chester Co., Pa. An order was received, at Regimental Head Quarters, that a ration of whisky was ready to be issued, but the Sergeant Major forgot to notify me, hence I did not know anything of it until after dark. The Brigade Commissary was very much displeased at my delay.
