Saving...
102 Owing to the recent rains the roads are in a fearful condition, hence, the supply train stuck fast in the mud about a mile in our rear. Sunday Augt. 21. 1864 Extra rations were issued to the men to make up for those lost and damaged by the last four days rain. The Rebels seem determined to retake the Weldon R.R., hence made another attact on the 5th Corps. The engagement lasted bout an hour. The loss on both sides is said to be quite heavy: we captured quite a number of prisoners - supposed to be nearly 1000, including several general officers. It is also reported that parts of the 60 Ohio and 27th Michigan regiments were taken prisoners by the rebels.
