122 Near Peeble's House, Va. Tuesday, October 4th 1864. Heavy firing on our right. Orders were received to move at once but just as every thing was ready the order was countermanded, and tents were again put up. A ration of whisky was issued. Wednesday, 5th The only item of interest occuring to day was an order directing the men to discharge their guns in front of the line. Thursday 6th Received letter from mother, the first one written by herself. Wrote a reply. Sent $20.00 home, in a letter, to father. Loaned Hospital Steward A. H. Shaffer $20.00 and Charles E. Faunce 8.50 to be paid back on pay-day
