147 Fort McGilvery, Va Wednesday, Nov. 30th 1864 Received quarters about one oclock. Company A. is back of the for in ravine, ,, B, outside in battery # 7 balance inside. The Commissary department is stationed with Company A. Joseph Long of Co. C. was mortally wounded this morning, from which he died later in the day. We are now just north of the town of Petersburg, and have a good view of it. The Appomatox river is East of us about 500 yards between us and the river is the 20th Michigan Regt. My feet are exceedingly sore from our march yesterday, and otherwise I am quite unwell.
