175 Fort McGilvery, Va. Sunday, Jan'y 29th 1865 Received a letter from Sergeant Fisher, Co. F. During a heavy artillery duel nearly every tent in my Company (F) were riddled and my own tent was litterally torn to pieces. The inventory of worthless property was as follows: 2 Spring field Rifles, 1 Bayonet 6 Shelter Tents 1 Gum Blanket Monday 30th Received letters from: sister Lavina Lukens, Cousin Susan Crater, and Rosa C. Lowe, and Mess. Goodyear & Co., with a pair of number fourteen gloves, which I returned, as they are too large; I ordered No. 8.
