When I shall be greatly rejoiced I doubt not May God in his great mercy bless you and preserve you all and me, Heres one the best kisses I can send you. Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss Ironton Mo August 25th, 1861. My Dear Darling Wife: This is the holy Sabbath day and I am pleased to say to you this morning that I am well & feel almost as hearty as ever I did. How is my dear wife this morning? I have faith to believe that all is well. I have prayed for you almost constantly, and you have been in my mind to the exclusion of all else. I just came in from prayers. (I hope you will not think me disposed to display my piety, unnecessarily, for I think that we are so nearly one that all our acts should be known to each other. I took yours and dear Maudie&'s pictures and the blessed little Bible you gave me. I read a chapter and then I devoutly knelt where none but the eye of God
