Saving...
commenced fighting - I gathered up an old Spencer rifle - one that Shoots Seven times - and got a pocket full of cartridges - got out on the Street and Saw three men coming on horse back when they came up we told them to dismount we wanted their horses to go after the guerillas - the horse I got had traveled about forty miles that day - the men who were on guard here at the door went too - the Commissary Sergt got two or three of the cooks and came up and took their places + We only got about two miles out of town when we met the others coming back + Bradfordsville is eight miles out + I guess both sides considered themselves whiped for they all left Bradfordsville about the same time - the guerillas went one way and our fellows the other - We turned round and came back with them - It may seem strange but there wasent one hurt on our side - was three horses wounded, killed one of the guerillas' horses and got his Gun - Hear from them so they tried it again and sent them to Col Sidell, Today the first ones came back to Capt Fidler for him to investigate - They had been respectfully refered from one department to the next higher till they got up to the War Department at Washington
