May 8th 1865. Dear Cousin Tillie - I take advantage of the chance to save three cents, by enclosing a few lines in my worser half's letter. I dont much like the ugly names you called me and I am bound to retaliate by making mouths at your first baby. I would call you now an ugly, old, married woman, only I am afraid that fellow you humbugged might see this letter and then "Pistols and Coffee for two" might demanded. And so you have went and "hopped the twig" May the holy "Vargin" bless you and yours as long as grass grows and water runs-
