Burlington Ia May 20, 1942 My Dearest, Just a few lines to let you know we are all O.K. and thinking about you. Hope you are alright. I havn't had a letter from you since Monday morning. Hope I will get one tomorrow. Well this has been another raining, cool day + [pawpaw?] says continued cool too. I am going to have to get coal again I am afraid. I haven't ordered coal yet, but I guess I had better right away. The kids + I have had a very busy afternoon. We set out some plants the [name?] girls gave me and was I ever tired when I came in. We had cat fish for supper and thought of you, + wish you could have been here. The kids ate like little pigs. I paid Ben Thye today. The [tire?] was 19.16, but the car works just grand again. I am [commencing?] to worry about gas. Some people think if they started before we got started home, they would just make you leave the car +take the train home. I sure wouldn't want to do that.
