My Dearest Bess: Aug 29th 1918. Well I have just come over from breakfast and before that had drill. So will now write my daily note to you. I was down town yesterday again. I go down every other day to visit a 2nd Lieut wife who we operated. She is from N. Carolina and is my first introduction to a real southern woman. It would certainly do you good to hear her talk. Yesterday she dwelt on the uselessness of an education for women. She had it doped out that she had slept during classes and had a good time and had married a 2nd lieut. who was much nicer than a 1st Lieu. that Susan somebody had married
