April 26, 1942 Dear Mother and Dad: Have had two nice letters and your swell box of cookies since I wrote last. Box came thru in fine shape and contents sampled and approved Theyre swell I just got back from town saw a Fayette County car I hollered at him and it was someone from Oelwein. A soldier but he didn't stop. Went to church and went to see "Kings Row" an excellent show I thought. Finished another phase of school last night. I should get a pretty fair grade on it but I don't know yet what it will be. This makes four down and seven to go. I got a letter from the Hoyt Youngs the fore part of this week inviting me to dinner. The letter was mailed the 9th and invited me for the 12th of April. It was sent to my old address and got sent around and misplaced so I just got it. I wrote them a note explaining it and today I find I had a phone call from them last night while I was at
