August 21, 1942 Wendauer, Utah Dear Dad & Mom: I've loafed and slept all day. took a shower and washed some clothes this morning. I was on guard from 9 last night until nine this morning, there is man pasted constantly on every plane as well as other guards. It wasn't a bad job but tiresome. Well I guess we are not to move for another thirty days. This was quite a shock I was getting all enthused about getting close to home and seeing some green grass but I guess it's kicked in the pants. Perhaps then I will see Irma. I had a very nice letter from Adeline yesterday, they are or were at Clear Lake for a short vacation, she said they were having a nice time nursing the cripples & swimming. King Sr. with his broken arm & Red had a bad burn on his hand he had spilled hot tar in his glove with working for a roofing company. Also had a nice letter from Uncle Raymond. They are done threshing finally, oats were average. He thinks the corn & beans at Callender are not as bad as they first thought. He said if I get in town to take a bus to Sac City and he would see I
